It’s Shark Week on the Discovery Channel and this year’s 24th annual line-up of shows promises to be an exciting and informative as ever. New this year is Saturday Night Live funnyman Andy Samberg as the channel’s first Chief Shark Officer, which will no doubt lend some levity (beware, parents: he likes “pee” jokes) to the sometimes-scary scenes.
The week kicked off on Sunday night (July 31) at 9 p.m. with Great White Invasion, an exploration of why Great White sharks are suddenly being found in large numbers among surfers and vacationers just off beaches from South Africa to Australia, and up and down the coast of California. (Yikes! Just don’t watch these shows while at your beach house on vacation.)
Monday night’s new show at 9 p.m. is Rogue Sharks, looking into why some sharks suddenly “go rogue.” Be ready to watch some of the most horrific shark attacks in history. It’s followed at 10 p.m. by Summer of the Shark, which follows researches as they try to understand why there were so many shark attacks in the summer of 2008 off the eastern coast of Australia.
Shark shows air 24/7 all week, with new programming at 9 p.m. each night. Check out Discovery’s site for puzzles, games and quizzes about sharks.
